About Me

Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

A Thousand Words In Idioms, #2 C and D

As long as people have been around, they have tried to communicate with each other. As a means of getting the message across as clearly as possible, idioms and sayings have found their way into our language. Now, because "a picture paints a thousand words", I thought it would be nice to make this a new photo challenge. The idea is to choose an idiom, or a saying, ( even slang is allowed) and illustrate it with a picture. Each week we'll cover two letters of the alphabet, okay?
We covered our first edition last week with A and B, it's here if you need some inspiration.
I have slightly changed the name of this meme, it's now called

" A Thousand Words In Idioms"

If "language is the dress of thoughts" ( Johnson), then idioms must the wardrobe ...

Each week we will cover two letters of the alphabet, and since this is week two, this week's idioms have to start with a C and a D. If you're joining in for the first time, you can either do all four of them or just join in with the letters of this week. That's entirely up to you.
So here we go ....

C is for ...

"Cost an arm and a leg":
If something costs an arm and a leg, it means it's very expensive.
I've found some very interesting theories about the origins of that saying here.

And here's my picture. This display in the window of a tattoo shop made me smile when I was out on a photo walk with a friend of mine last year. I knew I just HAD to photograph it!!

And D is for ...

"Ducks in a row" If you have your ducks in a row, you are well organized.

I've even found a bonus one for the same picture !
" ducks to water" : If you take to something like ducks to water, it means it comes natural to you, like you have a natural affinity for it.
That's interesting, because in In Dutch we would say "you feel like a fish in the water"

So there, I hope you've enjoyed mine, and that maybe I have inspired you to play along!

I am very much looking forward to see what you will come up with!
Now click on the Mr Linky widget to find out who else is in on this, and add your link to your post if you're playing! Thanks!
Links from people who are NOT playing will be removed by me though!!!

Watching the mother duck with the young'uns it occurs to me that "having ducks in a row" is the opposite of "herding cats."

Brilliant! If you do this one again (after going through the alphabet) I may give it a try. Couldn't someone come up with a meme of "Just Things Around the House"? Cause I could ace that one!!!
