About Me

My photo
Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

A Thousand Words in Idioms, Almost there ...

As long as people have been around, they have tried to communicate with each other. As a means of getting the message across as clearly as possible, idioms and sayings have found their way into our language. Now, because "a picture paints a thousand words", I thought it would be nice to make this a photo challenge. The idea is to choose an idiom, or a saying, ( even slang is allowed) and illustrate it with a picture. Each week we'll cover two letters of the alphabet, okay? You can find the first edition here if you need some inspiration.

"A Thousand Words in Idioms"

If "language is the dress of thoughts" ( Johnson), then idioms must the wardrobe ...

The next to last two letters from the alphabet already, we’re doing W and X this week!

Now some players have asked me what I will do when the alphabet is done. More and more people seem to find this a fun challenge so I would want to make this a weekly.
The only thing I would like to change is that we get rid of the alphabet and let the players decide for themselves which two idioms they want to use. Everybody can join in and play, as much as they or whenever they want, nothing to catch up if you’ve missed a week. We will play on Wednesdays, like we did up until now.
What do you think? Is this a good plan? Do you want to join in?
Go ahead and grab your camera’s!

Like I said …
W is for …
Water off a duck’s back: If criticism or something similar is like water off a duck's back to somebody, they aren't affected by it in the slightest.

And X is for ….
WARNING
okay, send your kids off to get an ice cream or something before you scroll down,
because …..

X is for …
X rated!!! If something is x-rated, it is not suitable for children.
Ahem.

And NO, they’re not the same bugs as I the couple I showed here. It must have been bug mating season when I was there, I just kept stumbling upon this kind of hot stuff!

Now take your minds out of the gutter and sign Mr Linky if you’re playing this week, okay? Oh and make it a link to the actual post instead of your homepage, this will make it easier to look you up whenever we want, okay?

As always, I’m very much looking forward to what you’ll come up with.
See you all again next week for Y and Z, and let me know if you want to continue after that, okay? I sure hope so, because I’m still having fun!

*me hiding my eyes at the X rated bugs LOL. That is excellent my Belgian Bombshell. You did wonders. When I first saw it I thought she did it before but as you said I went back and looked and it was different. I love them both You did well.

I still say, that you should choose the letters you want us to do each week after we finish next week. But since you are the evil twin, I'll go with what you want LOL

Love the ducks as well. Wonderful this week as usual :)

Aloha

PS I'm glad my iPhone cant take XXX rated pictures...could you imagine what you'd see LOL

Soooo, you are a porn photographer. We do learn new things here don't we. LOL. Fabulous shots!! You really are skilled with your camera, as well as lucky to find some of these photo ops.

I am glad you are going to continue this fun photo challenge. With or without the alphabet words for me. I could only find one idiom for X... and there were a couple other letters that were tight, and if I needed to use those letters again I very likely would use the same idiom, though would find some way to come up with a new and original photo for it. There is something to be said for not having to catch up, lol.

Thanks for hosting this fun challenge. I'm happy t will be ongoing.

I can't seem to get my attention to span to this! Maybe if I get my life together and get back into a routine. Sorry I missed it. You did great but you know, pretty soon you're going to become known as The Bug Porn Lady.

What wonderful pictures. You have a great gift. Your pictures always tell a story.

I guess the sweet snuggleling ducks were like a warm up to the real thing going on with the bugs!

I deleted because I left the "n" out of snuggleling!

LOL! That last picture reminds me of what I saw in Peter's truck this past weekend. I was cleaning out his truck and my car, and while I was wiping down the dashboard I heard a noise, looked around, and then spotted two huge bugs mating in the passenger seat! I wish I'd had the camera!

Oh boy, those creepy crawlys are most def. x-rated :D
And the ducks are just oh so cute.
Thanks for the explanations as well :D!

bug porn!! how wonderful LOL

the ducks are so sweet

I must try my hand at this, you and Thom have inspired me, but don't tell Thom - his head is too big to begin with ;)

I didn't want to respond to your comment at my WW post since I wanted people to see whatever they see but yes, you're correct - it is nothing but a pine cone
when I took the shot of it and cropped it I thought that the bit of grass looked like a leg and there seemed to be an eye under there

and so it became a creature to me :)

That duckie picture is so cute! And a perfect illustration of the idiom. Love the detail!

And the bugs...well...what can I say? LOL!

All over the world, cockroaches and other assorted bugs are stomping their little bug feet, whistling, cheering and yelling, 'YEAH. MAN!!', and, 'Go get her, DUDE!!' and other assorted bug phrases which express their joy at seeing - maybe for the first time in their short bug lives - bug porn.

Oh how shocking! Bug sex on your blog! All I can say is -- what an amazing shot, LOL. :)

And as for continuing the meme, please COUNT ME IN! I was hoping that you would keep this one going -- it has become my favorite weekly activity.

Barbara H. said...

Oh, I did think of one suggestion for the continuing meme -- maybe a list somewhere with what idioms have been done already for those who would like to illustrate some that have not been done yet? Although -- some could only be illustrated pretty much one way, but others could be illustrated different ways. OK, so maybe this isn't such a good suggestion after all, LOL!

It is kind of nice to have something to go on and compare with what others came up with, though. So maybe we abandon the alphabet and go with a different theme each week? Nautical one week, animals one week, colors one week, etc?>

LOL - This is just too good. How in the world do you find such great subjects?

I closed my eyes too...I am too impressionable! : )

I will be thinking of something for next week.

Great idioms Jientje, liked your W, my friend Linda says it all the time, As for the X-Rated, Hmmmm, Let's just be Glad our Thom didn't think of it (I am joking).

I may even partake in the New Idiom Contest when it starts. This was a fun one.

Nessa said...

W is for wonderful and x is for xcellent!

I forgot to play, again, but who could beat these.

Dr.John said...

Cute but technically X-rated is not a saying but a rating .
Good try though.
Are those love bugs?

@ Gattina: I was on my two feet, thanks for your concern! 20x zoom is just great, I'll tell you!
@ Thom: I prefer not to use the same thing twice if I can help it. And ummm ... don't go there, it won't help! Thanks for the compliments though!
Oh and umm ... Judging from the portrait photography you do with that Iphone, I think I'd be terrified of what you would come up with for this! ROFLMAO!
@ Alice: Oh good! My theory exactly!
@ Quilly: Well, maybe National Geographic could hire me? I would love that!
@ Loree: Well, I enjoy it, and that's what counts!
@ Wanda: *giggles*
@ Melli: Oh, but I could! Seems like I'm the only one though!
@ Jacki: LOL, well maybe they were tired of lavender fields, and they wanted a more "exciting" place? They could try elevators next?
@ Nicole: *grin*
@ Dianne: I won't tell Thom. Promise.
I'm glad I was right about the pine cone! Good one though!
@ BarbaraH: Shush!
@ Lou: I LOVE the way your mind works.
@ Carleen: Oh, I'm glad you're in! Thanks!
@ BarbaraH: Thanks for the suggestions, but I want to keep this as simple as possible, and not narrow things down, by imposing themes. It's not a contest, just a fun game. That's how I see it?
@ Libby: I don't know dear, it just happens.
@ MrsLittleJeans: Welcome aboard!
@ kaye: thanks!
@ Bill: I would love that!
@ Nessa: Well, maybe next week then?
@ Dr John: I picked it right off the idiom site! And yes, they're love bugs!
