About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

The Menu on the Door …

windowviews

Don’t ask me why, but I like doors, especially the ones with character.
But never before has a door made me hungry … until I came across this one.
I really loved this door of an Italian restaurant with the menu specials chalked on it.

“… Baked scallops with radicchio with a dill and grapefruit dressing.
Braised turbot with fresh tomatoes, olives and basil.
Veal kidneys with shallots and balsamic vinegar… “

Sounds delicious!

Now that looks original!
Is that the actual entry door to the restaurant? - how do they keep the chalk from getting smudged?

@ Violetsky: It's not the real entry door, it's the door to the appartement.

I have a kitchen cabinet that I painted with blackboard paint. We write lists for the market and notes to eachother on it. When all of the kids were home I would write a calendar of events because I so often forgot to tell somebody something.

I agree .. sounds delicious!
I must set aside a "day for doors" post as I too love doors and have loads of pics from Ireland!

It's as though they set that door up specifically for a photo shoot. The barrel, the wine, all of it. Did you eat there? It sounds delicious!

@ Colleen: It's not a photoshoot set up, although I agree it looks photogenic. No I haven't eaten there yet, but the menu sounds very tempting!

I too have an affinity with doors. They are one of my favorite photo subjects.
Your photos are always so amazing, and you have such a great eye for composition.
I always find something beautiful here.

Best Wishes,
Kay

I can't believe they left the bottles of wine on the barrel outside the door. OH I would love to dine there! YES this is a wonderful door!

Jientje, I'll have the eaked scallops. I love them. I like to eat a lot of things. Eating shares with the top posts on my blog, about even with my beagle dog, Adi.
..
Mrs. Jim and I went to an Italian restaurant Firday for our aniversary. I had fruit de mer over angel hair pasta, she had chicken fettucini alfredo. There were six mussels, in Europe I would get a dozen. :)

I had hummus and a carrot for dinner with a spear of pineapple on the side. No. It's not my diet. It's the food of a tired, lazy woman! I'm on my way to bed and now I'm HUNGRY!!! YUM.
