About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday’s Fave Five, Sunshine and Croissants

friday fave five spring

Why oh why does Spring go by so much faster than Winter seems to do? Does anybody know the answer to that question? April 16th already, time flies!
It’s a good thing I get to look back through this meme and share some of my favorite things because it’s been such a magnificent week!

fave five april 16th

1. The weather has been fabulous throughout this whole week. As some of you might know, I love to use the sunlight to make my photos pop, everything looks so much nicer when the sun shines!
2. I was outside a lot, put my feet up, felt the sun on my skin. Just sitting back and soaking up the warmth listening to the birds sing felt like heaven here on earth!
3. We had our first lunch OUTSIDE! There is something about eating outside in Summer. I don’t know, it feels like vacation and your food just seems to taste better!
4. Saturday was the best day of the weekend and we made it our day out. We visited a garden and flower show at Groot Bijgaarden castle. (Click the link to learn more) The exposition of Spring flowers in the historic buildings and around the lovely gardens is still open until May 6th and it is really breathtaking. So if you happen to live close by, this is really worth visiting! There was a photo behind every corner, I took over 600 with my Big Guy! Photos from this beautiful event can be seen here and here, and there will be more to come in the next days.
5. We are still on a diet, and we eat loads of fresh fruits and vegetables. We’ve come to love and appreciate them a lot! I LOVE that little hint of vanilla in Pink Lady apples for instance. Every once and a while we indulge ourselves with a little treat though. Last Sunday we had a croissant for breakfast. That buttery taste, mmmm!

So there, … sunshine and croissants, we lived like God in France this week!

Friday’s Fave Five is hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.

I love to eat breakfast outside in the summer also. It does feel so decadent. There are no good croissants over here so I like oatmeal or toast and jam with tea with my sunshiny breakfasts.

To me, it is like you live on another planet. A beautiful place that, while so different, is very much like ours over here. Perhaps it is the slower pace and quiet beauty of your pictures that makes me jealous. Have a nice weekend.

That castle is just amazing!

And yes, I agree - the sun does help to make a picture just pop!

I am SO looking forward to eating our first meal outside. Haven't been able to do it quite yet - but we're getting close!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Mmm pink lady is one my favourites too.

We're enjoying the outside here as well. It's so wonderful to breath in the fresh air and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. And to watch everything begin to pop! Spring is lovely

Happy weekend!

I had to smile when you said "So there, … sunshine and croissants, we lived like God in France this week!" That's a saying I've never heard before ...

I love to eat outside too, if it's not too windy, which is so often the case here in my part of the world in springtime ...

I love your red toes in the picture. Red toes are just fun!

We are on a diet too but enjoy the occasional treat here and there. It tastes so much better when its just an occasional treat rather than a daily event. We have been enjoying strawberries.

Living in an historical country, you have so many wonderful opportunities to visit beautiful castles! Luck you! Dining al fresco? Yes, it's a wonderful experience! Enjoy your weekend--eating outside again and soaking up more sunshine!

I love the "toes" picture -- and the bumblebee in flight.

Beautiful photos, happy week.

Have a happy weekend.
