About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday’s Fave Five, Nice Weather, Good Company and Excellent Food …

FFF spring

The title says it all! It was a lovely, mostly sunny week filled with very nice activities, good food and good company. What more could I want?

fave five may 28

1. On Saturday we attended the eel festival in Mariekerke. We found a nice little restaurant where we could eat baked eel and it was delicious. The best baked eel I ever had! After that we visited an event in Hingene, a neighboring village. The costumed actors around and inside the castle setting were a photographer’s delight!
2. The next day was spent in my friend Annie’s kitchen. We both love to cook and we tried some challenging new recipes. We were joined by our husbands later that evening so the four of us could enjoy this lovely meal together.
3. While I was cooking my hubby installed a new tap in my own kitchen. The next day I rearranged some of the stuff in my kitchen and I love how I seem to have a lot more working space on my kitchen counter now.
4. Tuesday was our wedding anniversary. My poor hubby had to work but we were still able to have a glass of champagne and a mini celebration later in the evening.
5. On Wednesday I prepared lunch for my friend Nana. It had been some time since I last saw her so we had quite a bit of catching up to do. The weather did not really cooperate, so we were stuck inside, but that did not bother us too much. We had a lovely afternoon together.

As you can see, I had a lovely week.

I've never had eel, but if I ever come across an eel festival, I'll be sure to try it. :)

We hadden een fantastische middag en hopelijk laten we het in 't vervolg niet meer zo lang duren voor we nog eens afspreken. :-)

Your photos are always amazing!

Wonder if you would consider participating in Favorite Photo Friday sometime. We're just starting it, as a way to encourage one another and learn from one another's photography skills.

Happy anniversary! Sounds like you had a great week with all the food and fellowship. Well, all but the baked eel - to me and my American tastes, that does not sound good! But I'm sure it was great for you!

Happy anniversary. I hope you and your husband enjoy many more years together. I must say that I've never eaten eel. But then, it wasn't something found much in Minnesota. Is it tasty?

I really enjoy eel but I usually have it with Japanese food- both cooked and raw. I have to wonder how you eat it.

I love hearing about all of your experiences with food, you enjoy it so much and I enjoy hearing about it.

Happy Anniversary, Jientje. Congratulations! You didn't say what year but I am imagining from your writings that it is a fairly secure number.
Again, congratulations!
You meal must have been really nice for the two of you to be preparing it. It is nice to eat with friends. Cooking together first is better yet.

Happy Belated Anniversary to you both!

Quite a few of us have friendships and catching up with old friends on our lists.

Isn't having a handy hubby the best! So nice that he installed that new tap for you.
