About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

What I've been up to this last year ...

It's a typical November day today. It's very wet and terribly grey outside, and I don't really feel like going out today even if this is my day off from work.. Instead, it's time to get into cocooning modus -  ( I'm still in my jamies ) - and check out the new toy  laptop my hubby surprised me with two days ago. I did need some time to get accustomed to the new Windows 8 but all seems to be going  well and I have now access to all my photos and favorite programs!  Yaaaay!!
While exploring my new laptop something happened. I began to miss blogging, and the good old days of Nablopomo so many years ago when it all started for me. It was where I met friends all over the world
Some of you are on Facebook now, some of you I have lost track of since I lost my favorite Google reader.( I was too busy with real life stuff when Google decided to deactivate the google reader. )
So I have no idea who is still out there, still interested to see what I've been up to lately. I have no idea if I'm still in your reader or not.
Life has been so hectic this past year, you can't even begin to imagine!
Shortly after I posted my previous post on this blog my dear husband had a little stroke. Don't worry, he's okay now, but it scared the hell out of me!
Anyway, every time something bad happens, something good is bound to come out of it. At least that's what I believe. The good thing was I restored contact with a IRL friend I had lost over the course of the years. She was the shoulder to cry on in those difficult days!
Since then we started longing to start a new life at the other side of the country, closer to my family and my friend. So we started looking ... And we found our dream appartement soon after!
To cut a long story short, we have moved to the coast in June, and since then I have been working full time again. The first few months were sheer hell to me, it really took time to adjust to this new lifestyle.

Anyway, the moving boxes have all disappeared now and I'm kind of used to my new life. Winter is approaching, the days are shorter and the evenings are longer. Looks I could make some time now and again to post something. No more blogging every day though, I won't promise you that. Just keeping in touch.
Please tell me, who is still out there? Leave me a comment and tell me how you're doing?

I have moved too! It's completely different but w are adjusting as well. So happy to see you're doing good and that your husband's stroke wasn't worse. :) Love you!

So good to see your post, and I'm happy things are going well. Moving is so bittersweet, but once all the dust has settled life begins anew!

I am glad your husband is doing better and moving has its good and bad points. The bad is the actual moving. The good is the new scenery, new beginnings and such. I always think moving before Christmas is good cause then you get to make new memories quickly. You are talking to a lady who has moved a lot lol.

Well good luck to the new place and your husbands continued recovery.

I'm so glad to hear from you! I'd wondered what happened. Good news that your husband is well again. Tell him to take care.
I am one of those weird people who actually enjoy moving, both the process and the new place. It's a good choice to live closer to family (and the beach!).
I'm still blogging at least once a week at willowscottage.com

I haven't blogged in a very long time and don't really visit many blogs anymore, either. I keep up with some folks on Facebook, but it really is different. Happened to open my feed reader for the first time in months, saw this post from you, and it made me smile. :)

I had almost given up on you but I'm back with you now - for however often you blog. I'm the one in the USA who said her grandparents came from Belgium and my dad took pictures similar to what you seem to love. I am glad you are back - having moved will give you lots to discover and photograph. Can't wait.

Many times I've wondered what happened to you.
So sorry about your husband but so glad to hear he is fine. A move and work - wow - a change for sure.
Hope you see this. All the best my friend.

Hello Jientje .. I happen to click onto your blog in error and I'm glad I did. I have also 'lost' my reader and only have a few bloggers in my 'favourites' column.
So very sorry to hear about your husband but happy to hear he is doing well and keeps doing well. You are by now well and truly settled in your new home. Would love to know all about your new surroundings.
I am still blogging (with two daughters who are into social media and keep up to date with trends, I am encouraged to continue!! In a nutshell - hubby and I have had two wonderful holidays overseas 2012,2013 - France and Italy. I have itchy feet to travel more! Our youngest daughter got married last Oct. Beautiful wedding in the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal, a glorious area about 4-5 hours from Johannesburg (it's on my blog) I am still a busy a granny looking after my grandsons!
Hope you're keeping well
love Avril (momsmeanderings)

I'm still here, I'm sorry about your husbands stroke and what big changes for you. Hope all is well. I'm well but busy caring for an ever growing family. I use feedly for my blog reader now. It was good to see this post. I came by looking for your paella post. I couldn't get the pictures to come up though. I'm going to try to make my husband some paella. He spent a couple of years in Spain, I've tried to make it for him several times and never been successful. Maybe this time.
