Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday's Fave Five, Fresh Herbs and Clean Floors

Can you believe it's Friday again? Where has the week gone to?
Time to reflect on the week that has passed and post about five favorite things from your week. Friday's Fave Five is hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, if you're looking for the rules, they're here.

It's been a bit of an uneventful week, but I still have managed to find five favorites.

1. We cleaned the concrete tiles on our patio with the pressure washer. Now that the plumber has solved the leakage problem we can finally clean the floor of our patio again. I added a before and after picture, because I can't believe how clean it now looks!
2. My herb garden. I just love to use fresh herbs from the potted herb garden on my patio. Can't imagine Summer cooking without them.
3. Avocado and orange salad with little slithers of Parma ham. I made this for lunch yesterday.
4. Broad beans or Fava beans. I saw some at the weekly market and just had to bring them home. It does involve quite a bit of work ( you have to remove the pods first, then boil the beans for a couple of minutes and then remove the shells ) but I don't mind, they're worth it.
5. Pastis as an aperitif. It's an anis flavored liqueur, diluted with ice water. It tastes even better when the sun shines, it reminds me of our holiday in Provence!

The patio looks fabulous. I like how it's surrounded with green growing plants! The salad sounds so refreshing and good. Yum. How nice to have your herbs growing fresh just outside the door! Enjoy your weekend.

I just came back from England yesterday, where amongst other meals I had lasagne with potatoe salad. Why not ??

Your patio looks like the perfect place to relax and eat ALL your meals! How wonderful to have that little herb garden right at your 'fingertips' when you're cooking.

what a difference in your patio. It looks like a different place. I think your salad looks delicious. I love all kinds of beans. They are a bit of work but I like puttering about in the kitchen. I use fresh herbs all summer as well. Yum.

That salad looks and sounds absolutely delicious! Your patio is so beautiful especially with the shining clean tiles. It looks like a place I would just hide away in.

It doesn't even look like the same patio! Very nice! It must smell fantastic with the herbs growing, too.

What a great idea for a salad!

Thanks for always sharing your photos - so gorgeous. My sister went to France last year. After coming back she introduced the family to Pastis. Sipping this always brings back wonderful memories for her!
