About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday’s Fave Five, The Sun is Shining Again!

FFF spring

Because of a lovely day out with my husband I skipped last week’s Fave Five, so I thought it would be nice to do a review of the last two weeks today.

fave five May 21

1. I had a lovely Mother’s day. We spent the day at my parent’s house. The roasted chicken we had for our Sunday dinner was a simple yet delicious meal. After that we drove to my grandmother’s village to plant flowers on her grave. It’s something we do each year and I love the tradition. After that we had a cup of coffee in the little bistro across the church. That’s when my daughter joined us. Her company and her smile is all it takes to make me happy, but she brought me a lovely gift as well. She had already given me a lovely salad bowl for Christmas which she now completed with the spoons that go with it. Thank you sweetheart, I love them!

2. The reason why I skipped last week’s edition of Fave Five is because I had a lovely day out with my husband. We spent the day at Bokrijk Museum park. We had been inside for too long because of the poor weather we had lately. When we saw a ray of sunshine that morning we decided to make the most of it. Unfortunately, the sunshine did not last. In fact, it was very cold, but at least it stayed dry. Bokrijk Park is a museum where life around 1900 is being recreated. Old houses, reenactment scenes … a real journey back into time, and photo opportunities galore, I enjoyed every minute of it!

3. On Saturday we spent some time gardening. There were still some plants that needed to be potted and some tidying up to do. I love how it looks now. You can see more pictures of it here.

4. Strawberries. I buy the little ones whenever I can. They’re cheaper, they don’t rot as fast as the big ones and they have a lot more flavor.

5. My diet is still going well. Lots of fruits and vegetables, and no snacking in between meals has made me lose 6 kilos, that’s more than thirteen pounds! Yaaay!
I treated myself to a lovely artichoke yesterday. My husband does not really care for them as much as I do, so I prepared one just for me!

Oooh and we’ve had some lovely sunshine again this week. It’s good to feel the warm sun on my skin again, to be able to eat outside and spend time outside again after those cold and wet first weeks of May. It has really lifted my spirit!

As you can see, I had a lovely week. How was yours? Share some of the highlights from it and join Friday's Fave Five at Susanne’s Living to Tell the Story.

The guess the cold weather you had last week moved our way this week because it was quite cool and we had some rain too. But for us, it's a welcome break from the hot sun.

I love the bowl and utensils your daughter gave you -I adore dishes and flatware! She looks like a happy young lady and I'm so glad you were together on Mother's Day.

You have had a wonderful two weeks! The salad bowl is gorgeous! Can you believe I have never had an artichoke. Yours looks very good though. Perhaps I will have to try one.

That bowl and the matching spoons are just so lovely. What a nice gift. The park sounds really fascinating, too. And congratulations on losing over 13 pounds. That is awesome. Have a great week.

Congratulations on having lost 6 kilos! I know how meaningful that is.

I'm trying to figure out one of the pictures in the mosiac, is that artichoke with lemons tied to it? Looks yummy, whatever it is.

Sometimes the simple meals are the best!

The artichoke intrigues me... I've never been able to make one successfully.

The little mill house looks like something out of a fairy tale. Love it!

I love your tradition of planting flowers on your grandmother’s grave. Glad you had a nice day out with your husband. Such a treat! I love smaller strawberries, too—wish I could find more of them than the bigger ones. 13 pounds! Congrats. That’s quite an accomplishment.

We've had cold weather too but it turned warmer this week. Today is grgeous! And tomorrow it's going to be 25. yay!!

Way to go on losing 13 lbs. I'm trying to lose weight too. I've been really well walking every day. I've lost 5 so far with about 12 to go.

Hope you have a lovely weekend with some sunshine to enjoy!

Your week does sound lovely. I would love visiting that kind of museum.

The spoons and bowl are really nice. What a great gift your daughter gave you.

It's been cold here this week. I had all sorts of plans to pot flowers and dig in the garden but it's pretty nippy! I'll have to wait for your sunshine to get around here.

Hi, I tried to comment yesterday but my computer wasn't working! I had notice that you didn't post last week and so I'm glad you filled us in on both weeks. You've had a wonderful time!
