About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday’s Favorite Five, Life is Good!

FFF spring

So far, May has been very cold, rainy and windy. Some bright spells, but overall nothing like the warm weather we had in April. Although I do long for the sun to appear again, it’s still nice it to look back on the week that has passed and remember the good things. So join me and the others at Susanne’s Living to Tell the Story and share your Fave Five favorite things of the week!

Fave Five May 8

1. A surprise visit from our daughter and her husband on Saturday. An excellent opportunity for me to get into the kitchen and prepare us something nice to eat and then spend some time at the dinner table together!
2. A new cookbook with loads of delicious calorie reduced recipes. I used a coupon in my weekly magazine which gave me a 10€ discount! I made a chicken salad for lunch yesterday which was really very very tasty.
3. Sparkling water Mojito style. I don’t add the sugar and the rum but I use lots of ice, lime juice and mint leaves to get a very refreshing drink.
4. A little visit and a guided tour inside Gaasbeek Castle on Sunday morning. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take photos inside the castle and it was raining outside, so there were not as many photo opportunities as I had wanted!
5. Lunch with a friend on Wednesday. Girl talk, something nice to eat and a glass of wine… Life is good!

Friday’s Fave Five is hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.

You have to share some of those recipes! Your "virgin mojito" sounds tasty! I love to tour castles; hate that you weren't able to take pictures.
Have a good weekend!

Lunch with a friend sounds wonderful. Too bad about the castle. I always hate going somewhere that doesn't allow photos!

A great week from the looks of it ... and accompanied by great photos. Too bad you're not having nice weather but hopefully the sun will soon shine.

The weather is really lousy ! I was more fortunate when I visited <a href="http://gattinatravels.blogspot.com/2010/04/gaasbeek-castle.html>Gaasbeek castle</a> in April, I had wonderful weather and sunshine, but haven't been inside the castle.
Today I wanted to buy petunias but it is too cold to plant them I am freezing !

I need to look into some reduced calorie recipes. The one on my blog today is definitely not reduced!!

Glad you had some time with daughter and a friend this week.

I would so love to visit a castle!

Hope the sun comes out again for you soon.

Chicken salad sounds so very yummy! That first picture of food though -- drool!

I hear you on missing the warmer weather, but summer is a'comin'!

Have a great weekend!

Being at the dinner table together was on my list too! Something I so take for granted but am really thankful for.

I'm going to try your non-alcohol mojito water. Yummy.

Too bad you couldn't take pics of the castle. I'm fascinated with your castles.

I drink water flavored with lime juice and mint too, Jientje, with a hint of cranberry juice sometimes!

A lovely week! I'm drinking lemon lime Crystal lite right now - but your drink sounds even better. I'm going to try it. The mint leaves grow outside my door.

I'm also watching my calories (7 lbs off and 15 to go) - chicken salad sounds good. I'll ahve that for supper tonight.

Our May has not been as nice as April either - not so cold but quite a bit of rain - but our leaves are starting to come out now and the tulips are blooming so I'm pretty happy. It could be snowing :)

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

I would liked to have seen the inside of that castle! I always love a new cookbook, too.

Happy weekend.

Everything about that mosaic is simply inviting...especially the daiquiri.
