Two giant puppets were roaming the streets of Antwerp last weekend.
The diver
and his niece, the little giant girl.
He was looking for her
while at the other side of the city
the girl was looking for her uncle.
They were operated by an army of puppeteers
who looked like Lilliput men compared to the giant puppets.
It took ten puppeteers to move one leg, can you imagine?
When she got tired of walking,
they let her sleep for a while.
while her uncle continued his search.
The story took three days to unravel. They finally found each other at the end of the third day.
For three days, the giant puppets and their puppeteers were the talk of the town …
I found this video on You Tube, it was not made by me but I’m adding it anyway, just to give you some idea of how huge this whole project was. It was shot on the first day of the event, the arrival of the little girl giant, whereas my own photos were made on the second day.

Wow! Those puppets are amazing. What a cool story. I love the puppeteers' costumes too.
I do have to apologize for my last comment that the puppet girl was a little creepy! So sorry! I didn't know the whole story behind this. Now that I see the complete story, all your photos - wow! That must have been spectacular to see! I watched the video - that was really something!
That is so cool! I saw the giant girl in a tv commercial and I wondered if they used special effects. I would love to see this.

Oh wow!! I saw photos of them on Big Picture a few months ago. Quite incredible
Thank you for your welcome words!
Unfortunately we lost this amazing(!!!)event. We're trying to see as many as we can from the events, here in Belgium, to know better the country we live in...Do you know a site which writes abut all the events that take place in Belgium?
Wow! Those are some incredible puppets!
Very unique entertainment, Jientje. I have a very small puppet, which I can hardly make do anything!
These photos are both amazing and creepy... but ultimately they're just incredible. WOW
That's absolutely amazing ! I missed something ! Do they do this each year ? I didn't know ! fortunately you covered this event !
Yeah, we had lot's of luck that day! :-)
This is really amazing! I can't even begin to think of all the work it took to do all this....how exciting to see it live!!!

How thrilling to see this live and unfolding in front of you. Who pays for this troupe of puppeteers to come to a town? And then spend three days performing this? When I googled "large puppets in Belgium" I found they have done this with the girl and a large elephant as well. Thank you for sharing your pictures. I learn something new every day when I am on my computer.
I've seen these on the travel channel. How exciting it must have been in real life.
My goodness...these shots are awesome. I can imagine being the talk of the town! Wow. I am catching up on blogs...I've missed so much with summer's travels.
