About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday's Fave Five

friday fave five 12

Another Friday, another Fave Five. And I’m not going to say how quickly time flies again this time. Uh-uh. I’m not. I.AM.NOT. I’m just …not.going.there. Sssshuush.

Nothing very BIG this week, but enough “good stuff” for another great Fave Five.

1. Last Sunday we had a street sale at my parent’s house. You know, kind of like a garage sale, except it’s not in your garage, and the whole street is involved. Like when you’re allowed to rent your own property for 3€ per meter… Hmmm…
I know. And then sell your stuff and try to earn your money back. Well I guess it was a good investment, I managed to sell some of my clutter. I’m not going to make a world tour with my earnings, but I did not expect that.
At least I got some of my closets cleared, and that’s not bad either.
2. Speaking of closets, I did some clothes cabinet organizing this week. Men’s department. Uh, yes! All the shirts are sorted out. Long sleeves, short sleeves, AND by color. Each shirt has it’s matching tie. Ready to go. Now why have  I never thought of that before? Hmmm?
3. I got some free gifts and samples this week. I got a yellow Kalanchoe from the garden center because they wanted to apologize for any inconvenience caused by the remake of the store. And on top of that, we got 10% off! I don’t mind! Not at all!
And then I got some free skin care samples at the pharmacy. I love free samples. Don’t you?
4. Home made ice tea. I read a post about sun tea, and then Melli posted her own recipe for ice tea, and that made my fingers itch to make my own. So I took a nice glass jar, boiled some water, spooned  a generous amount of wild cherry fruit tea in a paper tea bag, together with some slices of lemon and some sweetening and plunged it in the jug all the while holding my breath my jug would not break. I let it cool down on my kitchen table, and put it in the fridge after that. When I came home, I poured it in a nice glass with some ice cubes and what I tasted was a wonderful fruity flavored yet very refreshing drink. Tastier than water, and no calories involved! Perfect!
Since I could not put it in the sun, because it was raining again yesterday in this frog’s country! Forget I said that, it’s supposed to be Fave Five, but DUH! I think I’ll call it fridge tea. I love it.
5. I needed to travel to Antwerp to get some paperwork sorted out. Something I loathe doing, but by the time I left, the sky had cleared and the sun came out. So I grabbed my camera and hopped on the next bus. Only fifteen minutes to get to Antwerp, and I didn’t have to drive or look for a parking space! And it’s cheap!
So after the paperwork was done, I treated myself to a long photo walk. I walked for two hours, enjoyed the sun, found some unexpected hidden treasures AND I had a little bit of exercise, all in one go!

I told you …
Life is good!

Fridge Tea...I love it. Such a woman to do that with shirts and ties. pffft. Glad the sale went well. I know it was a long day from you...should I tell everyone how grouchy...um tired you were the next day when we were on google chat? oops...no that will be our little secret. Glad you got the paper work done. Another great week Have a great Friday :) Have a great time with your parents as well :)

Life does indeed look good at your place. That tea looks yummy.

When you get here you can organize Amoeba
s closet if you like, but if you get his ties out he's apt to knot them around your neck! ;) Maybe we'll just stick to photo walks!

I love that picture in the bus. You are always so creative. You even make a bust drive look interesting. And, I must admit I'm green with envy over your organized closets!

Amai, was het alweer rommelmarkttijd!? Het is precies of de vorige is nog maar net gepasseerd. Wat gaat de tijd toch verdomd snel.

Great idea with the ties and shirts. Sounds like something I need to do. I love a good street sale, and your pic really captures it! Wish I could have come to get some good deals! :)

Life is good and free samples make it even better!

Your Fridge Tea looks every BIT as good as my tea! I can't believe you guys have to PAY to have a yard sale! (street sale) I finally found something that is BETTER about the USA! That was very clever putting the shirts and ties together. Dennis doesn't wear ties... or shirts. LOL! He lives in T-shirts -- even to work! He USED to own "A" tie... but I think it got "misplaced"...

Things seem to move a little slower over there. Time to take a bus, time to take a walk and time to take pictures. Over here it is rush rush rush. People cut you off on the highways, will not let you change lanes without passing you first. Walk? Who walks? Tread mills and workouts! Yes, some of us over here walk. Life in Belgium could be easy to love, but this is my home over here. At least I can live a little in Belgium through your pictures.

Your pictures are always so delightful. I especially love the closet pic.

I.AM.NOT going to say how quickly times flies either. :-)

I love the idea of a street sale, garage sale, yard sale ... anything sounds good right now because, I too, need to get rid of some items and preferably find something to treasure from other people's junk :)

Just reading everyone else's comments first and had to chuckle at hip chick's bit about how you make a bust drive look interesting. I've never actually seen a bust drive. :) I wondered how the tea got red. I thought it might be Sangria. I wish we had better public transport in the suburbs of small town America. I really don't like to drive and I don't think others like driving behind, in front of or beside me either. My daughter, Fashionista is making a skirt out of neckties. It takes a lot of neckties, so if you have any leftover from the sale you know where to ship 'em.

Perfect Fave Five.

I love a good yard or garage sale. Haven't had one in a while but I'm thinking I so need to get rid of some stuff, too.

The tea sounds marvelous. I need to find a good jar to do this in.

What a delightful fave five!! I love getting closets organized and clutter cleaned out. Free samples are always fun. I wish I liked fruity teas -- that would so increase the variety of available things to drink. Glad the experiment came out well for you! And I'm glad the travel plans worked out so well, too.

Have a great weekend!

I love the idea of a photo walk!

I adore have clothes in the closet lined up by color, sleeve length, etc. I'm very OCD that way! So your closet pic is my favorite this week!

I love that idea about shirts and ties. That's still confusing for him...
I'm so thirsty right now that I'm heading downstairs to make a drink.

Jientje - would you please email me and tell me how you "strike out" words and sentences? I've tried to do it, but I always end up striking out everything. Geesh - I feel like such a goober!

Thanks so much, and I love the idea of a street sale. Wish I could have been there with you:-)

You're way more organized than I am, maybe you can pop over and help me out, lol. 2 hour walk?! Yippee!

Ask me why, I don't know, but I got completely consumed in the tie thing. I barely glanced at the other photos. I was busy trying to figure out the angles, the pairings, the textures. Whaddya think that means?! I'm insane? Yeah, everything's normal for me.

I love public transport! And long walks in the sun.

Love yard sales. Not for selling but for buying. Yes, samples are great if they don't become clutter. My problem is I don't use them. I too started to declutter again. So need to get some control over the clutter in my house. Great week. Enjoyed reading your week.

@ Thom: me? grouchy? nah!
@ Quilly: Let's stick to photo walks, no way I want to upset the Amoeba.
@ hip chick: I remembered I needed a picture for my Fave Five collage, and I was lucky nobody was sitting there. I'm not sure if I would have had the nerve to take pictures in a crowded bus?
@ Nana: Da's al TWEE jaar geleden! Amai!
@ Wanda: Life is what you make of it, so true! It takes one to know one, right?
@ Jacki: And I envy you sometimes?
@ Sandy: I'm glad that's so well organized now.
@ Rebecca: Yes, even if you don't always use them, free samples are fun!
@ Melli: I loved the taste of that fridge tea!
@ moneythoughts: Life is not exactly that much slower here in Belgium. People do the same on the highways, stress and rush is part of every day life here too. But I made a choice not to be part of that rat race anymore, and I'm truly enjoying it. I consider myself blessed.
@ Lisa: Me. Neither.
@ Loree: I managed to keep away from other people's junk though.
@ 2Thinks: That tea just turns red, I think it might be because of the rose hip? A skirt out of neckties? How creative! I love that idea!
@ Susanne: It just looks more appealing in a nice jar, I think so too!
@ BarbaraH: A well organized closet is such a pleasure to look at. True.
@ Jerralea: Yes, I am rather pleased with how it looks now too!
@ Brenda: I agree. Fast, safe, cheap. Nothing can beat that!
@ Marg: Why did I not think of that before? That' a lot less early morning stress you know!
@ Libby: I hope the email helped?
@ Lisa: I'd love to. And then go for a photo walk together? You're on!
@ Robynn: I'm not asking why. I guess it's just you being you? ROFL!
@ Willow: I had a great weekend, thanks!
@ mom2triplets04: Like Wanda said, life is what you make of it, and I like to make the best out of every day!
