About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Friday’s Fave Five, Spring Blossoms and Good Company

Here we go for another round of Friday’s Fave Five again. It’s been such a wonderful week it feels like I could make this a Fave Twenty Five! So without further ado …

Friday's Fave Five April 23

1. An unexpected phone call and a visit from my daughter has got to be my number one. Although Saturday was filled with lots of little surprises, this was truly the highlight of the week. We sat outside in the sun on the patio, enjoyed a lovely meal together, caught up on some stories from each other’s lives, it was wonderful. The afternoon and the evening went by much too fast. Although her company is the most wonderful thing on earth she can give me, she never comes empty handed. I just LOVE the mini succulents she gave me. They’re a lovely momentum of a wonderful afternoon!
2. My hubby fixed the little wall fountain!! The water pump had gone stuck when I forgot to keep enough water in it last year. I missed the murmuring sound of the  water so much, I’m so glad he got it fixed!
3. Weight loss! Eating healthy food and lots of fruits and vegetables is paying off, I have lost 9.4 lbs already! Woohoo! The best thing of it all is we’re really enjoying this new way of eating. It does not feel like we’re dieting at all!
4. The Swedish smoke box. A delicious way to prepare all kinds of food is to smoke it in a smoke box. I’ve had the box for years, but haven’t really used it much up until now. I have been experimenting with it lately and ’m really getting the hang of it now!
5. The lovely excursion we made to Haspengouw, which is the fruit region of Belgium. The orchards were not in full bloom yet, which gives us a reason to go back in two weeks, if the weather holds?  Despite that, there were photo opportunities galore, some of them quite surprising and unexpected like the abandoned farm house and the MG’s. So keep an eye on this blog in the next couple of days!

So how was your week? Was it as wonderful as mine was?

What a great treat to spend time with your daughter! Congratulations on your weight loss and change of eating style. I'm in the middle of doing the same thing. Something about fresh produce in the warmer months is so much better than in the cooler months.

Congrats on your weight loss! And how lovely to spend an unexpected day with your daughter - no doubt listening to the water from your fountain on your patio!

I always enjoy your photo collages.
How lovely for the visit and call from your daughter. I love to smoke my food too - fish, veges, everything and anything. It always tastes so good and always reminds me of home.
Congrats on the weight loss - that is so awesome. I've lost 4.6 pounds in 2 weeks and eating more fruit and veges does make a big difference. I hope I don't plateau soon, I'm still trying to get my eating under control - portion control. The exercising will come, it's always the food that gets me. Oh well.
Happy weekend!

I want to come eat at your house. Your meals always look like you put so much creativity and love into them. Not to mention the pictures make my mouth water, the look so delicious. :v)

An unexpected visit from daughters is always the best. I wish mine lived closer so that she could make surprise visits.

Congrats on your weight loss!

I love the sound of water fountains too. Even lawn sprinklers make me so relaxed.

I'm happy for you that you had a great visit with your daughter.

Funny you should mention eating more fruits and vegetables ... everyone is telling me that these days!

I'm glad you got to see your daughter, what a lovely week. Do you have a recipe for the cantaloupe salad?

Ooh, Jientje, I want to hear more about your menus. They sound terrific -- and that melon and prosciutto looks fantastic. Hurray for the fountain returning to its murmuring :-)

that sounds great !
love fountains and smoke houses.
I had an order to make my son sandwiches in a certain way so i made them and he left without them Now he came back and his Father took his sandwiches and left the ones I made him
I told my son he needs to be vigilant
So now he has croissant with turkey, genoa cheese and a tomato. Instead of toasted plain bread with turkey cheese and genoa cause he doesn't like tomato.
Hard life.:)
