About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Ruby Tuesday, Right Down to the Slightest Detail …

A medieval festival was being held in Deurne near Antwerp this weekend. Almost a thousand participants from all over the world were gathered here this weekend.
For two days they slept, worked and lived as they would have during the middle ages.

Their costumes were accurate right down to the tiniest details.

even the dog’s leach was exactly how it would have been in the old days.

They even prepared

and presented their food as seen on old paintings.
Not a lot of anachronisms were spotted.

except for the odd cell phone perhaps?

You can see more pictures from this event in this post.
Ruby Tuesday is hosted by Mary the Teach at Work of the Poet.

Wow...what a glorious day, and filled with all kinds of activities. I especially like the photo of the sword hilt and the one with the full face and strapped on spectacles!

My R T is "lady in red"...a portrait of my daughter. Come by and view her if you can find time, I'd love your visit!!

Oh, I love seeing festivities like this one! I guess I would have worn funny spectacles or wouldn't have been able to see at all. And what a great red dress - why can't we dress like that now? I would, if it were in style.

I suppose those glasses are better than not seeing, but could they have not thought of arm pieces a little earlier rather than lashing them to one's face?

Ha! Interesting how the cell phone was there too. :) I wonder if there would have been so much red back in medieval times. Cochineal wasn't available in Europe until the 17th century so I don't know how they would have made red dye.

Fun! I love those spectacles, but I'm glad that I don't have to wear them.

I guess I ought to find a festival like this so I can practice taking pictures of people.

Love the sword and glasses, lol. That poor piggy, you make me sad. :(

I don't like to think of my meat ever being alive, although it has been lovely critters.

I love re-enactments. It's interesting to see how people lived all those years ago. And I absolutely love all the details in the costumes.

Was the weather cool? Those clothes look awful hot. I thought my glasses were bad. Yikes, could he even see out of those? Did they have port a potties? Loved the pics!
