On one of my recent walks in Antwerp, I was looking for “abandoned” as a theme for my pictures, when I passed by this fence.
Looking at this picture NOW the bicycles seem to clutter the image a little, but at the time I thought it fit the theme just right. Anyway …
I turned around to take more pictures when I saw this. The man with his cell phone was obviously waiting for someone who had not showed up yet. Maybe he was calling him or her, I don’t know, BUT to me he looked lost and abandoned too. Especially since he was standing right next to two garbage bags .
Maybe it’s just me, or my funny sense of humor but it did make me chuckle.
All of the above are just some thoughts and sidelights leading up to this picture.
This is really what it’s about in this post, but somehow I never seem to be able to post just ONE picture. But you don’t mind, now do you?
This is a detail of that fence. To me this looks more like Art than graffiti. It should be in a gallery, or a contemporary art museum. Maybe that also is just me?
What do YOU think?

I too love to view works of art like this!! The only time I think it's graffiti is when it's gang related.
My R T is posted. It's a small 2 minute video I compiled for You Tube about "Flamingo Fandango". Come visit if you can!! Happy day.
We need your graffiti artists here. Here graffiti is mostly spray painted ugliness. This is bright, popping and has it's own kind of "beautiful".
I would say some someone with talent has a colorful imagination.
Yes I think it looks like art as well. I am often amazed at how much talent some of those graffiti artists have.
I am with you on this! But I am a street art fanatic! I LOVE it! Any time, any where! NOT the blasphemous scribble across the top of a bridge - or along the I-95 barrier wall -- but ART - misplaced! I LOVE it! (I thought the bags next to the man were SHOPPING bags! LOL!)
In my city we have real art painted on the side of buildings, and much of it is beautiful. Personally, I am not big on graffiti of any kind, but that's me. I will admit the art in your pictures is quite good. Someone should give that person a large studio and some big canvases and let them work.
jientje, I just love graffiti!! This place doesn't look abandoned at all. There have been a lot of artists working here... :)
Looks like art to me. I'm amazed at how well it's done on such a bumpy surface.
Very nice shots and funny.(The poor guy) I like to take pictures of graffiti and murals in Philadelphia.
Have a great day!
I like the rooster and I agree, the man looks abandoned. The bikes seem to be having a little coffee break together, but it works for the abandoned theme. Bright colors in this painted fence.
I love the pictures! I found your blog through Rosidah's and the Women's Community Blog. My father was from Belgium and I have many relatives over there. I have been wanting to come visit for years again. My dad passed away two years ago and I would like to come back to see his home. I am from Iowa, U.S. I love to see your pictures. It reminds me of his home and I haven't been there since I was 16. I am looking forward to reading more of your blog! If you'd like to stop by mine--you can find me at www.specificallyspeaking.wordpress.com
Great photos, interesting to look at. I don't think I have ever notice how interesting and sometimes beautiful graffiti can be! Who knew.
Hugs,

Wow ! this rooster in the last picture looks terrific !
I went (by train) to Blankenberghe yesterday, we wanted to go to Coxyde but missed the train. I had never ever seen in my life so many people in a train ! We only catched one seat and the others were standing everywhere, even in the toilets ! Unbelieveble ! on the way back the same, except I could catch two seats ! and then they say to take public transport ! Cattle is better transported !
That is some of the best chicken art I have seen! It belongs in a museum.
Excellent my friend. I think plenty of graffiti looks like art that belongs in a museum. Some of it is well done. But then there are the others that are words that are threats etc. that don't belong anywhere. Well done :)
I rarely post just one either
and I usually have a story or a vision or a theme, that's the beauty of sharing our photos
I love the idea of the man being left out with the garbage
I absolutly like it! Great way to get rid of the gray of this fence! I also like rooster pictures - so it is just right for me! Million times better then some ugly metal wall! Great find!
The roof of the store is grass. The goats live on the roof.
When I visited Belgium I was amazed at the wall art and how beautiful even the graffiti was! These are beautiful and I love your close-ups.
Jientje you just post as manyshots as your little heart wants to. Amazing detain in this fence art you're right the bikes look like the clutter next to artwork like that!
I love the art on the fence! I think the bikes do look abandoned and even the man seems a little left out of things.
Some graffiti is actually considered art. I think it takes a lot of creativity to create any sort of image and make it stand out.
Get up ! It's already past nine, office hours have started ! Mine is up !!
I love urban art, color is always better than gray walls!!
There is a rooster week in the blogosphere, your pictures apply :)
Happy Wednesday, busy day for me so no posting (only selective visiting, lol)
I don't mind you posting more than one picture!
I love it..
Oh, in my busyness over the past two weeks I missed this great post...loved all these colors. Great rooster, with the mouth open just a bit.
