About Me

My photo
Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Weekly Winners, Old and New, Art and Graffiti …

weeklywinnersmarch2010

Last Wednesday was a gorgeous day for a city walk and I ended up exploring a neighborhood I had never been to before. My walk began at the old train station Antwerp Dam.

The neighborhood is part of a renovation project, but some of the old buildings still stand.

I love the barbed wire shot and this last one, but they are all wonderful. The angle and lighting of the stairwell shot is perfect. Nicely done!

I love old buildings and neighborhoods like this. It will be good if they can find a way to mix the old and the new together.

The old building is amazing... I imagine it was quite beautiful when it was new. =)

Love the birds in the window and some of that graffiti is really amazingly good!

Love the big red sneaker graffiti and the birds in the window. It is good they try to restore beautiful places instead of letting them go to ruin.

Love the black and white one too, the birds look amazing, as does the graffiti..... it's interesting to see old buildings covered in pop art!!!
Great photos, you are very artistic and have a great eye for the unusal, I like that about your work!!!

Beautiful photos, Jientje. At first, but just a miniscule second, I thought the pigeons were part of the metal work! ♥...Wanda

I see you have the same "artists" as we have in Brussels ! It's a shame !

The stairway and the barbed wire both grabbed me! Beautiful shots!

My favourtie shot is the one with the barbed wire fence. Graffiti is a modern scourge but some of it can be quite beautiful.

seems i share the opinion of many of the others -- the barbed wire shot and the stairwell were my favorites!

Great shots! I'm going to be different - I like 9271 with all the lines and angles! Love the old man graffiti under the bridge - beautifully done!

Excellent pictures as always. I love taking pictures of old buildings. The one with the pigeons is really cool.

Wow! There are so many wonderful photos here. I love the light in the stairwell and the moodiness of the barbed wire. I also love the window with the pigeons and the way the pigeons mirror each other.

I hated to see all that graffiti in the first old building...it seems like such a violation of its stateliness.

Fascinating. I love the light in the first shot, and the broken window with the birds is wonderful.

Nice series!!

I have a friend who does photos like this in Detroit, Michigan... I am forever fascinated by the beauty that can be discovered in urban decay. You captured it wonderfully! Fantastic set.

What a great place to explore. I have no clue which picture I would pick as my favorite as I like them all for different reasons. Neat that you captured the birds too! And I really admire graffiti art! Too cool!
