About Me

My photo
Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Weekend Reflections, Light Ornament

This light ornament hangs in the hallway of a butcher store in Antwerp. I was fascinated by the beautiful reflections and I took several pictures with my Big Guy, trying to get the lighting right. When I was done, I stepped back and turned around still looking at my camera. That's when I bumped full impact into a man who was entering the store. "OMG! I stepped on your toes, did I hurt you?" I said. "No ma'am", he replied, "the pleasure was all mine! "

Weekend Reflections, Monsieur le Marquis

One of the actors at the costumed event in Hingene last week. The reflection in the mirror looks as if his twin brother is in the next room!

Weekend Reflections, At The Little Pond

Another reflection from Bokrijk Museum Park. Too bad it was such a grey day, I would have loved to have some blue sky reflected in there as well. Ahhh well, at least the sun is shining today! Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekend Reflections, Bruges

Boats on the canals, waiting for the tourists… It’s a common sight in Bruges.
Not a crystal clear reflection this time, but I kind of like that rippled effect.

Weekend Reflections, While Making Apple Pie

I was getting the ingredients ready ready to bake apple pie when I noticed that the sunshine made the apples reflect in the top of my stove. I wanted to somehow include the cookbook in my picture and started to play with the light, the reflections and the shadows …

Weekend Reflection, Like a Painting …

IMG_8863

I’m always looking for reflections everywhere I go. There for I love the use of glass in contemporary architecture. On my latest photo walk in Antwerp this sight drew my attention. I like how the blue sky and the buildings across the street mirror some color and different styles of architecture on the modern glass façade of our City Theatre.

Weekend Reflections

One of my favorite buildings in the village where I live is this one. It used to be a hotel and has been restored to it’s old grandeur just a few years ago.

Weekend Reflections, Trees at the Lake

This is another picture from our weekend in the Ardennes. We were on our way home when I saw this lake. My husband pulled the car over one last time so I could take a couple of pictures of reflections. It was getting late in the afternoon, close to sunset, and I absolutely love the dreamy light you get at this time of day.

Weekend Reflections, Framed …

This is the river Maas in Dinant. The houses and their reflection are “framed” by the bridge and her shadow.

Weekend Reflections

Time for James’ Weekend Reflections, a fun photo challenge where we try to capture reflections. Reflections are everywhere, even on a foggy gloomy day. This canal is just around the corner from where I live. I love how moody my photos turn out on a day like this, but that was exactly what I was looking for.

IMG_6497

PS: There was a request in the comments by Moneythoughts. I quote:
“I, like all the comments before me, like the photo too. But, I would like to see the same photo cropped at the bottom along a line equal to that running across the top of the picture so the reflection of the trees would be in perfect balance. It was just a thought. Enlarged to the size of a wall, I bet it would be exciting to stand before it.”

Thanks Fred, I had been wondering which one would be better too, so I’m going to publish the other version. That way the other visitors can tell me what they think too.
So here is the original version before I cropped it:

So what do you think, which one do you like best?

Weekend Reflections, the Pond by the castle

The pond by the castle had just started to thaw a little around the edges. A perfect opportunity to make some Winter reflection photos. I hope you enjoy.

The kids from the village used to meet in this corner of the pond to go swimming. My husband was one of them. There even was a diving board and cabins to change clothes way back then. You did have to be careful not to jump too deep or you’d end up with your head sticking in the mud!
