I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name.

I am an addicted blogger.
I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures.
I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance.
I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too!
They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ...
If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ...
Now, as a result of all of the above,
I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

It’s a good thing it does not say this needs to be stuff nobody knows about me yet. After three years of blogging it’s hard to come up with something new so I’ll just list seven things about myself and if you already knew, than you’re a faithful visitor!
- I’m not very tall. 1,53 m to be exact, I have no idea how much that is in feet? - That’s probably why I love wearing shoes with high heels so much. - I get these annoying sneezing spells from time to time when I sneeze like fifty times in a row. - I’m addicted to my camera(s).( everybody KNOWS that!!!) Capturing moments has become a lifestyle, I don’t know what I’d do without my cameras. - Usually I prefer coffee to tea, but when I’m ill, I find tea is a lot more soothing. That’s probably because of the sweetness of the honey I put in it. - I love a sharp pencil to write with. I recently bought a set of new ones and I love them!
- I am left handed, give or take a few exceptions. I write with my right hand, but I use all my cutting knives in my kitchen with my left hand. It’s really funny but when I need a scissor I NEED to use my right hand again, can’t do it with my left hand!

Why do you love this picture? I picked a collage of collages, happy moments, and things that make me smile … There’s so much in there that makes my life. When was the last time you ate pizza? I got home very late last night, and I had a very busy morning today, and that’s the reason I have not updated my blog yet. I’m floating on a pink cloud today, because the tickets for my trip to the States have been booked and I can start counting the days until the end of October when I will make a tour around the States and meet some of my Blogger friends. Sometimes, wishes can come true, and I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends. I’m very much looking forward to meet Melli and Ella in Washington, Terri in Portland, Quilly, OC and Thom in Hawaii, and Lou and who knows who else in Chicago! I’m thrilled, I’m one of the luckiest girls in the world!
It’s going to be one hell of an adventure, I’m going to be traveling all by myself for the first time in my life. I think I will just have to trust the pilots. They will know where they’re going even when they are taking me to Chicago on Friday the thirteenth! It’s a good thing I’m not superstitious!
Perhaps I’m going to have to change some of the text in the “about me” on my profile. It should say I AM a traveler now …

Friday again, time to share some of the good stuff from the past week. This is one of my favorite meme’s because it makes me look over my shoulder and realize just how happy I really am. I treasure all the good things, big or small.
It’s been a very busy week, I had quite a lot going on here a lot of it related to blogging!
I am writing this post using a new tool, and I love it!! Robynn talked about Windows Live Writer in this post. Robynn in her turn had read about it here. I got very curious, so I downloaded it, and gave it a try. It is great, indeed it is! I can add special effects on my pictures, crop them, add a watermark , tilt them if I want to, change them into a black and white or a sepia, anything … It is AMAZING , I already showed some of the features in yesterday’s post. Only one click and I can insert emoticons, Wikipedia links, quotes, tables, maps, tags, video’s and all kinds of lovely features. No need to be a geek to be able to work it all out, because it’s very user friendly. If I can do it, so can everyone else! I’m in blog heaven. I AM!
On Sunday there was a meet up with some Belgian bloggers. My friend Nana and my sister did one hell of a job organizing a get together and it was a big success. It was great to meet the people behind the blogs and to finally be able to put a face on a nickname. Some of the people I had already met in real life, some of them were new faces. I guess I have known it for a while now but still I find it odd how familiar they all are. It felt like catching up with friends you have known for years but haven’t seen for a while .
Monday evening my sister and I were invited at my blogger friend Nana’s home. Nana and I did some shopping together earlier that day, and spent the rest of the afternoon cooking together. We made all kinds of finger food and tapas for us to enjoy with a glass of wine. My sister joined us after work. Three good friends, a giggle and a tear … girl’s stuff. Wonderful.
The Solidago (Goldenrod) is finally blooming on my patio. I planted it years ago, but I never seemed to be able to get flowers on it. They always seemed to dry up just before they bloomed, but this time I gave it some extra care, extra water and for the first time in years managed to see them bloom! Maybe it’s because of all the rain we had this week? Mèh! My husband installed a watering sprinkling system for the patio garden because it was so hot lately, and it has been raining ever since. DUH!! I want my sunshine back!
I got four awards since I came back from holiday! I’m getting so behind on them! I’m going to pass two of them on today, and do the other two in tomorrow’s post, so stay tuned!

It is the time of the week again, time to share some favourite things from the past week. The meme I love doing most of all. I love sharing good moments, and I really love reading other people's favourites!
It's been a very busy week, the last week before my holiday in France starts. In fact, I will be leaving for France tonight. We will be spending two weeks in my beloved region of France, Provence. I promise I'll try to stay away from ditches, and although I will be away, this blog will have an update each and every day I'm gone. Blogger autopost will take care of that! (I hope! )
1. Family. We had a lovely party with ( almost) the whole family last Saturday because of my niece's Holy Communion. It was nice to be together again, we had pizza, played bingo and enjoyed each other's company. One of my other nieces had a baby recently (which made my parents great grandparents by the way) so we got to meet her husand AND the baby. It was FUN!! I did a photo shoot with my niece Paulien and I will be sharing this very special series of pictures next Sunday.
2. I loved my new outfit. That's me in the middle there, yes.
3. A brunch at a chateau on Sunday. Great location, great food. What more should I say hmm?
4. The flowers I got from our guests a the brunch. I got two gorgeous bouquets of flowers. So thoughtful of them. I have enjoyed them all week.
5. Another award I got yesterday !! Phew! This one came from Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, our wonderful Fave Five host, yes!! It's the lovely blog award, and I'm honoured to receive such a beautiful award from her. Thank you so much, it means a lot to me Susanne!

Thom has honoured me with the Honest Scrap award. Of course he had no way of knowing I had already received one in the past, but that's okay. I love awards, they're a token of friendship and appreciation. There are a couple of rules attached to it though...

Ten things you do not know already huh? Oh my!!
1. I have been a smoker all my life. Since I was fifteen , actually. I used to enjoy smoking, but I quit on April 30 2006, ( oooh, that's exactly three years ago!) and I have not regretted it since.
2. I own a collection of teddy bears, but I'm sure you knew that already? Some of them were made by me. I have a huge black grizzly bear I take with me whenever I need to go to the hospital. Fortunately, I have not been in a hospital much. Let's keep it that way!
3. I type with two fingers. That makes my daughter smile. I've never been good at typing, I always used to cheat! I can't find the letters on the keyboard if I'm not looking, I just can't!
4. I can never let go of some of my stuff. Throwing away anything is very very hard for me. I always find that if I do, I'm bound to need it shortly after! Last year, I got rid of a lot of my clothes from when I was thinner, only to loose weight again this year. I could have worn them again if I had not ditched them!
5. As a young girl I used to be a fairly good student, but I never managed to finish high school and get a diploma. I quit school at seventeen, and got married at eighteen. Getting a degree or a diploma did not seem that important in that era. I regret that now.
6. I'm very eager to learn new things, but I hate schools. I am a self educated girl. I taught myself how to cook, I taught myself how to use a camera, I tackled some computer skills all by myself, and now I'm teaching myself English. The down side is you need paperwork for everything in Belgium, you can't just be a cook or a photographer because you have talent. But I never seem to be able to find the courage and the patience to go to school where they teach me stuff I already know!
7. I'm not into fitness or exercising much, but I love to dance. If there was a way to exercise through dancing, I'd much rather do that. But then again, I hate to commit myself to regular sessions of anything. If I feel like dancing, I want to dance, not because I have to. I sometimes cannot resist dancing on my own when I'm alone at the house. ( and this has nothing to do with #8! LOL!
8. I love a glass of beer from time to time. So there Quilly, you're not the only one! My favourite beer is a Duvel, served very cold. It is one of our strongest beers in Belgium though! I added this beautiful commercial they made some time ago. One of the most breath taking videos I've ever seen. Enjoy ...
9. I tend to do three chores at a time. That does not always work well. I sometimes get lost in what I'm doing, and find my iron is still on the next day, and the shirts are in the dryer!
10. I'm an early bird. I love to get up early in the morning. No need for an alarm clock, I have one built in! I can't stand waking up at 10AM to find I have wasted half of my day. Sleep can be such a waste of time sometimes!

It seems as if time and my days swift away ( yeah, I know that's not a real verb, but I like it) each week. Come Friday I find myself thinking, "oh my, where has my week gone to"? And then when I look back ....
1. We're on daylights saving time now!! That is something I look forward to more than my birthday, Christmas and Easter packed together. I'm the kind of girl that needs a lot of light, and an hour extra daylight makes the days seem just a wee bit longer. On the down side, my biological clock still is not functioning the way it should. I'm used to waking up spontaneously at 6.45 am, but now I wake up at seven.
2. On Saturday I had a meeting with two blogger friends and my sisters in Bruges. We took a trip on the canals, had diner in a lovely restaurant, took lots and lots of pictures, and it was fun! I love Bruges, it's the town where I was born, lived and worked until I moved to Antwerp when I was 23. Each time I visit Bruges I find that I've missed it ... so much.
3. The weather. I know this Fave Five has a tendency to look like a weather report each week, but if you lived in Belgium, you'd understand. Blue skies and sunny days are very precious to us, and we've been spoiled again this week! We had gorgeous Spring weather, nice and warm temperatures, flowers, blossoms .... sheer heaven!
4. Violets!!! I just LOVE those little violets, they are such sweet little flowers. I enjoy looking at them, but I use them in salads and starters as well. I just need to plant them on my patio each year. I bought some this week.
5. Another award!!! My friend Thom gave it to me last week, and it had already been passed on to me by Jan as well. It's an award with a very special precious meaning.

Another week has gone by, it's amazing how time flies. I like this meme, it's hosted by Susanne at Living to tell the Story, and I like it because it makes me look back and share some of the highlights of the past week.
1. It's been a week with very capricious weather and a lot of rain, but there's a blue sky right this minute as I'm writing this. It's still rather chilly so I cancelled my plans to step outside to take some pictures. For now.
2. Ladybugs. Have I mentioned before how much I like them? They always remind me of my grandmother. She used to love them so much and I think I got that from her.
3. What really made me happy this week is the help I got from blogger friend Terri to create this new blog. I could not have done it without her! Last time I tried to change something in my template I lost all my Haloscan comments! I decided to steer clear of it this time and create a new blog instead. She sent me the codes and helped me each step of the way to create a one column blog. I love how I am now able to share bigger pictures.
One thing I still might need to change is my header picture. I wanted to keep the old one for a while to make my readers feel at home, but there might be some of you out there who have not noticed this is a new blog? What do you think?
4. Most of my readers have followed me here, and I want to thank them as well. I did not want to loose you guys and girls!

Some of my blogger friends answer their comments, and I always loved to go back and read their comment on my comment. From now on I'll do that too, I like the interactive communication.

Avril , my South African friend from Mom's Meanderings has given me this nice award two weeks ago. I know I suck at awards, I get them and then forget all about them!
