About Me

Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Weekly Winners, Pure and Unspoiled

This is the last series of pictures I took before I drenched myself and my camera by falling into a ditch last Sunday. I'm okay, but my camera is ruined. But thank God for my sweet husband who ordered a new one to replace my beloved companion. He of all people KNOWS I can't go on without my camera. Word from the shop yesterday was that it should be due next Tuesday.
I am counting the hours now ...

This is the kind of landscape I used to see in my childhood years. This is the village right next to where my grandparents used to live. I treasure the fact that it has been left untouched by time, everything still seems to look the same it did when I was a child.

I hope it will remain this pure and unspoiled for ever....

Oh no! I don't know what I'd do if I ruined my camera! I hope your replacement arrives soon!

Great photos this week. I love the first cow photo. I always feel so bad for the chopped up trees!

What beautiful scenery! I am so glad your storage card survived the dip, even though your camera did not.

If that the ditch you fell into? It is so full. I am doubly glad you weren't hurt!

Sorry about your camera, glad you are okay.

I loved them all-- the laying cow shot is my favorite though. So dramatic with the colors.

Looking forward to seeing your work with your new camera!

Beautiful place and scenery..

I, too, can't wait for your new camera to arrive: anyone who takes pictures as breathtaking as these needs to always have a camera close at hand.

I love scenes of places where time seems to have stood still, and it makes me sad when "progress" takes over and erases what we used to have. You have captured the spirit of this place beautifully.

I think we had the same idea ! I discovered some untouched places near our house and even cows !

What picture perfect shots!

These are so stunning and pretty. Makes me want to be there. Glad you are OK and that you are getting a new camera after that kind of tumble!

I'll be the spoiler - just gotta ask amidst all that beauty....what is up with the trees that have no branches? Simply must know why they are cut down to a nub?

Nik said...

There's something about me that adores cows, so those cow shots by the little pond are my favorites! And I love your landscapes with the bulidings in the background.

Sorry to hear about your camera! I hope you get it soon. Lovely photos - I like the one with the birdie best. :D

@ Mar: That bird picture is one of my favourites too!
@ Christina: Don't feel bad about the trees, they're supposed to get cut down to the trunk every two years.
@ Quilly, no, it's not the same ditch, I would have seen that one!! Take a look at picture number nine. There are electricity poles with holes in them on the left of the picture. Pole number two, that's where it happened. If you look close, you'll see the reed ( on the left of the picture) between the white flowers and the pasture where the cows are. That's where the ditch was, you can't see the water because of the high grass and the reed.
@ Bill: thanks
@ Tara: I'm sorry about that camera too!
@ Secret Mom thoughts: I love how they still can be cows.
@ worldtrendz: You sound familiar to me?
@ Secret agent mama: I am, but he's golden, yes!
@ Kim: thanks
@ Vicky:So am I!!
@ Ladyinred: thanks!
@ Carmi: I think that's a very nice compliment, coming from you!! Thanks!
@ Gattina: great minds think alike!
@ Smoochiefrog: thanks!
@ Maggie: Yes, that new camera really is the good news in this whole story!
@ Robynn: The trees are knotted willows, and they're supposed to be cut back every to years, to keep them in shape. By summer, they'll have new sprouts.
@ Nik: I love cows too!
@ Daisy: the bird is my favourite too! The camera will hopefully arrive on Tuesday.

Those trees look very odd. Glad he replaced your camera.

Cows have the same expressions worldwide, don't they? Do you think they all go to the same Cow College or something? Super shots...love 'em all!

Gorgeous pictures, Jientje!!! You are absolutely right about 'pure and unspoiled'...
:-)

The bird photo is my fave. Thanks for answering the question about the trees, cause I too, was wondering why they were all chopped off!

Melli said...

Jientje? Were the trees cut off like that when you were a child too? LOL! WHYYYYYY did they DO that??? I'm befuddled... and confused!

Truly it IS beautiful scenery. I was just commenting to Gattina that it is wonderful to FIND open spaces like that anymore. Even out here in the country where I live, more and more and more buildings take over! It's hard to find a good open stretch of land! Though I now knOw that there IS such land in our country - because I passed miles and miles of it driving through Indiana and Ohio!

That is a GOOD cow! She POSED for you!

This is a great series of captures. What a beautiful village it looks so peaceful. Love the fact that you can still find your fond childhood memories in each shot.

I loved the photo of the three cows in the field with their different colorations...and the trimmed trees along the road...very interesting!

Glennis said...

Lovely big photos and I enjoyed looking at them, pity the camera met its doom. I find it strange that the trees were all prunes so savagely. Nice cows.

If I must say my Belgian Bombshell...these are some of your best yet. The one in the mirror on the side of the car? Who the hell was driving? Hopefully not you? Oh wait. the car was at a stop...wheeeee...I love the mooer's. Now don't take this wrong, they were worth the drench if ya ask me LOL. What are those posts on the side of the road for? I've never seen such strange looking things. Was that what you saw in the ditch and saw the hole and tried to be like Kermit? LOL. Wonderful pics :)

I just love the cows! And how odd that they cut so many trees! It looks weird but kinda neat too - you know?

@ Jeanette: They're very common here.
@ Veggie Mom: I like that observation, too funny!
@ a Lady's Life: a treasure, indeed!
@ Gabriel: Thanks!! And thanks for following me!!
@ Libby: I like that one too!
@ Melli: They were. I'm used to seeing them like this, to me this is not odd, it's just the way they are! I like cows, especially the ones that are willing to pose for me!
@ Barbara: Yes, me too. I'm so fond of that village, I would cry if they ruined it's authenticity.
@ merrimishaps: thanks!
@ Wanda: everybody seems to notice the trees!
@ Glennis: That's just the way they're cut every two years. By summer the branches are full grown again.
@ Thom: Hell no Thom, I was not driving!
Worth the drench? Ooooh, you're evil!!
About the pole with the hole, read my answer on Quilly's comment!
@ Lisa: I know. I've always known them to be like this during winter.
@ hip chick: I think I might do a post about those trees in my Saturday Something.
@ Kirsti: It is, it's such a peaceful place. So beautiful. I love it so much.

How wonderful looking, it's like the town that time forgot.

As an aside, I've never seen trees so closely pruned before.
