As long as people have been around, they have tried to communicate with each other. As a means of getting the message across as clearly as possible, idioms and sayings have found their way into our language. Now, because "a picture paints a thousand words", I thought it would be nice to make this a photo challenge. The idea is to choose an idiom, or a saying, ( even slang is allowed) and illustrate it with a picture. Each week we'll cover two letters of the alphabet, okay? You can find the first edition here if you need some inspiration.
"A Thousand Words in Idioms"
If "language is the dress of thoughts" ( Johnson), then idioms must the wardrobe ...
Wednesday is idiom day, so here we go again, Q and R this time.
Q is for...
"Quitters never win, winners never quit":
If you quit you will never get what you want, but if you keep trying you will find a way to get what you want. ('Quitters never win, winners never quit, but those who never win and never quit are idiots' is a variation accredited to Larry Kersten)
And R is for ....

And R is for ....
"Ring a bell":
If something rings a bell, it reminds you of something you have heard before, though you may not be able to remember it very well. A name may ring a bell, so you know you have heard the name before, but cannot place it properly.
And now let the fun begin, don't forget to click on the Mr Linky and add your name and the link to your post if you're playing this week. I'm very much looking forward to visit everybody.
I'm having so much fun each week! Please join in if you feel like it, no need to catch up if you don't want to, just jump on the bandwagon with us?
Who knows, I might change the rules slightly and make it a weekly once this alphabet is finished? What do you think? Would you still feel like playing?

Wow first commentor for a change. Excellent my Belgian Bombshell. I love these. And the pictures are so good. The first one is so right on with the idiom. They both are but that first one is excellent. Aloha my friend :)
@ Thom: first commentor and first player too! Great! The minute I found the idiom, I knew it had to be that picture. It's not always as easy as this!
Nice proverbs ! I like to play petanque we did it years ago in our garden. I would need a bell like this at the front garden door !
I hope I am updated now, I just posted O & P, because I had done Q and R last week !
Are you also freezing ? Here it rains cats and dogs !
Your photos fit perfect...I like the "bell within a bell shape"
Oh, great minds think alike, lol!!
Love your shots, particularly the bell with the purple accent, beautiful!!
Mine are up
I like the first shot the best probably because it's a bunch of old guys like me sitting around shooting the breeze and enjoying life...
Thank you for visiting my blogs and for your comments - very much appreciated.
I like you new format and the larger photos!
The bell picture is so pretty and that's an R idiom I didn't think of.
I actually planned mine this week. We have progress.
@ Gattina: Yup, it's very cold and gloomy and I hate it!
@ Wanda: Who has a sharp eye now? I had not even seen that! LOL!
@ Mar: Great minds again? ROFL!
@ Jacob: shooting the breeze, I think I like that! No, I'm SURE I like that!
@ Nessa: Progress indeed, and your pictures are great!
So far of the ones I've read, none of us has the same Q! That's surprising since I think Q would have the fewest. Those are both great -- I hadn't thought of either.
This is fun!
You always have the most beautiful photos!
Your pictures are, as always, perfect. And I am amazed at the number of people I have seen in your pictures wearing blue jeans.
I installed Mozilla, just for you my dear friend. This post is heavenly, as usual! ;-) x
I am just visiting. I really like the picture of the men chatting. I miss this sight here in NC - people are kind of isolated. I remember my father when I grew up in Bulgaria - coming from work and stopping to talk to the neihbors - it is not like this here - we just sit on the computer!
@ Barbara H: Q has not been a problem for anyone it seems! Everybody did a great job, and so did you!
@ Carleen: Thank you Carleen, but you did great too!
@ Lou: Thank you, Lou. People wear a lot of blue jeans in Europe, why wouldn't they?
@ Nana: No more problems getting kicked out of the comment box anymore then? Great!
@ ellievellie: It's a good thing people at least have that! I love that Mediterranean way of life!
Never heard the Quitters one but remember and sometimes use "Rings a Bell"
Both were great and I liked how you used your pictures to illustrate.
Your photos fit perfectly as usual. I have enjoyed this meme even though I didn't participate.
Finally HOME at 9:00 pm and who's is the FIRST blog I stop at??? YOU! Yes ma'am! Gotta come check out the other idioms! These are great! I ALMOST (I came this [] close) did ring a bell!) There was a bell on the boat that we were on last week in Old St. Mary's City! Yep... ALMOST did it!
Now I'm off to see the others!
Oh - the guy in the Q photo COULD be telling about the one that got away too! LOL! LOOKS like a fish story to me!
Thanks, Jientje, for peeking in on me. I won't join in on the Alphabet but I know it is a fun thing. On Wednesdays I am trying a MidWeek Blues posting. That one is just starting but I do think it will make it.
It will be on my Little P&P Place but right now it is on both my blogs.
..
I don't have any Bruge pictures posted yet, I am on sabatical for the "Our 2009 European Holiday" posts. I left off just a little back in Paris.

I think you will have to paste that in.
I am notorious for not finishing my series but I do want to do Bruge.
After Paris for three days we drove up to Honfluer, staying there three days. Then to Bruge for a couple and back to Paris for two more.
We really liked Bruge, the people were friendly just like all the French were. Everyone in Europe is generally friendly.
We did the boat ride, walked all over, and never got our car out of the garage. I suppose the ice cream was my favorite, maybe on a crepe.

Great choice of idioms, Jientje, and fabulous photos that go so well with the idioms.
Your photographs are just outstanding Jientje, so sharp and clear and speak a thousand words each and every time. I heard this little quote some time ago and have not stopped repeating it to friends and family, it makes me giggle. "I would give up chocolate, but I am not a quitter".
I enjoy your idioms day and have joined in this week, have been meaning to for the last few weeks, I did not complete it exactly right but will get better I promise. Kathy.
Nice! And thanks to you and Thom, I don't have to "catch up" because he did my Q and you did my R! You know my O and P are also missing! I have much to do before next Wednesday and I have company coming tomorrow! We are going to spend several days exploring the island together.
I saw Kathy's post about your idiom Wednesday and I hope to be able to join in next week. These were wonderful examples for Q and R! The men in photo # 1 remind me of Italy.
She raved about your blog and I see why...the photography is outstanding! Hope to follow along as much as possible during a busy summer.
