About Me

My photo
Antwerp, Belgium
Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, oh what a thrill
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
I learned to love all of Hollywood money
You came along and you moved me honey
I changed my mind, looking fine
Goodness gracious great balls of fire

IMG_1516

You kissed me baba, woo.....it feels good
Hold me baba, learn to let me love you like a lover should
Your fine, so kind
I'm a nervous world that your mine mine mine mine-ine
I cut my nails and I quiver my thumb
I'm really nervous but it sure is fun
Come on baba, you drive me crazy
Goodness gracious great balls of fire

Macro Monday, Lobster Killer …

mm

I killed a lobster. Awww!
I know.
Well, I HAD to. I could not just leave him there, could I?
I had a song going through my head. If you’ve seen Julie and Julia, you’ll know what I mean. If not … have a look at this clip and then you’ll know EXACTLY how I felt.

Okay…
His destiny could have been a lot worse.
He ended up deliciously prepared …  ( not all lobsters do ! )

AND …

IMG_6209
I am giving him his share of Internet fame!

While alive

AND post mortem.

Not all lobsters get such a tribute, do they?

Macro Monday, Butterfly, my Butterfly …

mm

Sometimes when I see a picture, I get a song in my head. And every once in a while the song brings back beautiful memories. Like this one, “Butterfly” by Daniel Gerard.
It was in the early seventies, and butterflies were highly fashionable back then. I had a butterfly sticker on my handbag, and the jumper with the butterfly was my favorite piece of clothing. Even the brownish colors of this butterfly remind me of that era.
I was sick in bed, I had the flu, I was feeling really really miserable. My mother brought me hot tea with lots of lemon and honey. My small portable radio – which had been a gift for my holy communion - kept me company.

And then I heard this song, and despite the sore throat, I could not help myself, I just HAD to sing along with it. This song made my day.
Every time I hear it now, it takes my memory back to this very day.
And every time I see an orange and brown butterfly, I hear this song in my head …

BUTTERFLY

DANIEL GERARD

Fell in love in the wink of an eye
With the girl who was called Butterfly
She said she loved me so
She could not let me go
But still I had to say goodbye

Butterfly my Butterfly
I'll come home to you one day
Butterfly my Butterfly wait for me don't fly away

Never fly in the heat of the sun
Close your wings when the long day is done
Stay home and wait for me
Till I get back and then counting
The minutes one by one

When a man longs to be free
He will sail to the end of the sea
I won't be gone too long
But while I travel on just close
Your wings and wait for me

Summer Stock Sunday, Up in the Air …

Heartbeat, sky high,
Tell you that I'm gonna fly.
Peaceful, weightless,
Rainbows watch me passing by.
Up in the air, there's no need to hurry,
Wind through my hair, no time to worry.
And though I'm falling through the clouds,
Oh, I'm shouting out loud.

Up in the air, there's no time for sorrow,
Just here and now, no fears for tomorrow.
High jump, sky dive you won't stop me, I'm alive
Fearless, head strong knowing that I will survive
Up in the air, there's no need to hurry,
Wind through my hair, no time to worry.
And though I feel like a butterfly
And you're the only reason why.

Open your heart, don't wait any longer.
Let me be yours, together we're stronger.
Up down, high low.
Watch me flying', here I go.
Take my hand, and where we're going,
No one knows,
Up in the air, there's no need to hurry
Wind through my hair, no time to worry

And though I'm up here in the sky,
Oh you are making me fly.
Up in the air, there's no time for sorrow,
Just here and now, no fears for tomorrow.
Bright day, sunshine,
Tell you that I'm feeling fine.
Knowing doubtless you will be forever mine
Up in the air, there's no need to hurry
Wind through my hair, no time to worry

And though I'm falling through the clouds now
Oooh I'm falling through the clouds now.
Heartbeat, sky high.
Tell you that I'm gonna fly.
Peaceful, weightless
Rainbows watch me passing by.

Up in the air, there's no need to hurry
Wind through my hair, no time to worry
And though I'm falling through the clouds now,
Can't you see?
And oh I'm falling through the clouds now, baby
Heartbeat, sky high
Tell you that I'm gonna fly.

A Thousand Words in Idioms, The Music Edition

"A Thousand Words in Idioms"

As long as people have been around, they have tried to communicate with each other. As a means of getting the message across as clearly as possible, idioms and sayings have found their way into our language. Now, because "a picture paints a thousand words", I thought it would be nice to make this a photo challenge. The idea is to choose an idiom, or a saying, (even slang is allowed) and illustrate it with a picture. You can find the first edition here if you need some inspiration.

If "language is the dress of thoughts" ( Johnson), then idioms must the wardrobe

From now on everybody can join in. No need to follow the alphabet, just pick two idioms and illustrate them with your pictures. Grab that camera or look in your archives. Just be creative, that's all I'm asking!
And don't forget to have fun and visit one another, okay?

So here we go ...

I'm using music as a theme this week
My first idiom is ....

Face the music: If you have to face the music, you have to accept the negative consequences of something you have done wrong.

Change your tune : If someone changes their ideas or the way they talk about them, they change their tune.

Your turn now, I hope more people will join in again this week, and I'm very much looking forward to see what you've come up with!
Don't forget to sign Mr Linky if you're playing, and use the link to the post, NOT the homepage!

On the Dock of the Bay …

ruby-slippers-door-stop_copy

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away

Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay

'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same

I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone

It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away

Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

(SITTIN' ON) THE DOCK OF THE BAY
- written by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper
- lyrics as recorded by Otis Redding December 7, 1967, just three
days before his death in a plane crash outside Madison, Wisconsin
- #1 for 4 weeks in 1968

About Otis Redding's death, I found the following information on Wikipedia:

Death

On December 9, 1967, Redding and his backup band, The Bar-Kays, made an appearance in Cleveland, Ohio on the local "Upbeat" television show. The next afternoon, Redding, his manager, the pilot, and four members of The Bar-Kays were killed when his Beechcraft 18 airplane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 10, 1967. The two remaining Bar-Kays were Ben Cauley and James Alexander. Cauley was the only person aboard Redding's plane to survive the crash. Alexander was on another plane, since there were eight members in Redding's party and the plane could only hold seven, and it was Alexander's turn in the rotation to take a commercial flight. Cauley reported that he had been asleep until just seconds before impact, and recalled that upon waking he saw bandmate Phalon Jones look out a window and say, "Oh, no!" Cauley said the last thing he remembered before the crash was unbuckling his seatbelt. He then found himself in the frigid waters of the lake, grasping a seat cushion to keep afloat.[9]

Redding's body was recovered the next day when the lake bed was searched. He was entombed on his private ranch in Round Oak, Georgia, 23 miles (37 km) north of Macon. The cause of the crash was never precisely determined.

Killing me Softly ….

Strumming my pain with his fingers
singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

I heard he sang a good song,
I heard he had a style,
And so I came to see him
and listen for a while.
And there he was this young boy,
stranger to my eyes,

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

I felt all flushed with fever,
embarrassed by the crowd,
I felt he found my letters
and read each one out loud.
I prayed that he would finish,
but he just kept right on

strumming my pain with his fingers,
singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song

UPDATE: I did a little research and it seems like this is a White Crab spider, family Thomisidae.
