I’m Baaaaaack!!!!!

 

 

Hey there, my dear friends and readers of this blog. I’m so sorry, I’ve been such a bad blogger lately. But there is a good reason for this, my little notebook died on me while I was staying at Melli ‘s house, and getting online became a huge problem.
I was able to log in on Thom’s notebook during my stay at Quilly’s house but by then I was so behind with all my stuff I did not even had time to download my own pictures, let alone answer comments or read blogs …
I’m going to have to MAAR  ( mark all as read ) most of the posts in my reader, I’m sorry. There is no way I’m going to get caught up again if I don’t do this!

 

I’ll try to download a couple of pictures from the last days of my trip, starting with my arrival in Chicago early in the morning. My good friend Lou was there to pick me up at the airport, and together we drove off into the sunrise. Ten pictures can be seen here.

The photo walk we made was very inspiring for the both of us and more pictures will be available as soon as possible. I PROMISE !!!

Meanwhile I’m back in Belgium trying to fight off my jet lag. Please don’t get angry with me if I’m not around as much as I want to, there is still loads and loads of photo work to be done right now. I still have not seen all of my pictures yet , can you imagine that?

To all my dear friends I met during this trip, THANKS again for all the things you did for me. You were great, and you are all in my heart. This was such an overwhelming experience! Thank you so much for making it possible to live my dream …

Ruby Tuesday, Fire Truck

I don’t know how long it’s been since I first started playing Ruby Tuesday, but searching rubies has become an automatism, a weekly habit, or is it an addiction?
When I heard the Fire Fighter’s Station held open days, I just HAD to go over there and see what kind of ruby photo opportunities I would find. One of the main attractions was an old timer fire truck that stood shiny and proud next to the modern ones. The old one was much more photogenic than his contemporary brothers, so I took my time to take some pictures from different angles. It was fun, I’ve never had the opportunity to do anything like it before.
I knew right there and then this would make a nice Ruby Tuesday post.

This week I’m doing the clothes edition. What not to wear. Sort of.
At least, not when I’m around with my camera!   

" Caught with your pants down"
If you're caught with your pants down, you're caught doing something bad or forbidden.

"Pull your socks up":

If you're telling someone to pull their socks up, you're saying they need to improve their performance.

Well … I think both of these gentlemen need to polish up their act a little, but that’s just my humble opinion!! ROFL!!! Remember guys, you’re being warned!
You never know when I’m around, but when I am, I always have my camera at hand!

The farm edition ....
I have two pictures for one idiom today, because there is a story attached to this one.

"Were you born in a barn?"
If someone asks you this, it means that you forgot to close the door when you came in.

We were exploring the countryside of Normandy last year in May when we came across this barn. It had a sign, "gîte à louer", (room to let) which I found rather funny. So I got out of the car to make a series of pictures of this very photogenic cow and her shaggy lodgings. I had taken pictures from all angles, but only after a while I discovered the calf she was so cleverly hiding!

"Put lipstick on a pig"
If people put lipstick on a pig, they make superficial or cosmetic changes, hoping that it will make the product more attractive.

This sow was feeding her little piggies, and she had the most happy face I'd ever seen. No need to put lipstick on her to make her look good!!

My first idiom is ....

Face the music: If you have to face the music, you have to accept the negative consequences of something you have done wrong.


Change your tune : If someone changes their ideas or the way they talk about them, they change their tune.

Macro Monday , Lines

 

I am completely uninspired today.
Looking for a new macro theme, I find I’m at a loss.
The last few posts have been quite spectacular, and now I’m afraid I’ve reached a point where it’s getting very very difficult to top them.
Or come up with something I haven’t done yet?
I could post the macro’s of the bees in the sweet peas I made last Saturday, but I already had bees in lavender yesterday. It would just be bees again.
I’ve done bug sex, done spiders eating bees … DUH.
Too many bugs and spiders could scare some of my readers away too.
I want something different, but what?  No more food, nah.
Pffff.

Then I remembered the theme for thematic photography is “lines”. Maybe I could find some interesting lines then? I took my camera and took dozens of pictures of all kinds of stuff. A whicker plate, my grandmother’s vase, you name it. And when I looked at them I found I did not like any of them.
After wasting hours and hours by taking and editing crappy pictures, this is what I can come up with today. It’s the best I can do for now.

Boring huh?

S is for ....

“See which way the cat jumps”:
if you see which way the cat jumps, you postpone making a decision or acting until you have seen how things are developing.

I wanted to take a picture of a very cute cat sitting on this window sill in Lourmarin, but she beat me to it and jumped off. In a fraction of a second I followed the cat with my camera and tried to snap her picture anyway, but I was too late. When I saw the picture on my computer my initial thought was to delete it. And then I thought it made a rather nice shadow shot for the Scavenger hunt. I ended up using a different one for the photo hunt but I still kept it in my archives .
It's a good thing I did not delete it. I could not think of a better picture for this idiom!

T is for ...



"Take your hat off ":
If you say that you take your hat off to someone, you are showing your respect or admiration.

This man is an ice cream vendor in the streets of Lourmarin. I published another picture of him in my Photo Scavenger Hunt a while back. I'm very pleased to anounce that it has been voted best picture in the "laughter" category of Kirsti's Scavenger hunt. But I took more than one picture of this man, he had such a photogenic face!
This is the second one ... And once again, he tells the perfect story.

Each week we will cover two letters of the alphabet, and since this is week two, this week's idioms have to start with a C and a D. If you're joining in for the first time, you can either do all four of them or just join in with the letters of this week. That's entirely up to you.
So here we go ....

C is for ...

"Cost an arm and a leg":
If something costs an arm and a leg, it means it's very expensive.
I've found some very interesting theories about the origins of that saying here.

And here's my picture. This display in the window of a tattoo shop made me smile when I was out on a photo walk with a friend of mine last year. I knew I just HAD to photograph it!!

And D is for ...

"Ducks in a row" If you have your ducks in a row, you are well organized.

I've even found a bonus one for the same picture !
" ducks to water" : If you take to something like ducks to water, it means it comes natural to you, like you have a natural affinity for it.
That's interesting, because in In Dutch we would say "you feel like a fish in the water"
