About Me

Welcome to the new, and improved version of Heaven in Belgium. I am Jientje. "Jientje", like the boys name Gene, followed by "chu"? "Gene-chu", that's how you pronounce my name. Yes!!!!That's it!! So now you know huh? I am an addicted blogger. I was born and raised and am still living in Belgium. Yeah, the "this-is- Tuesday-so-this-must-be-Brussels" kind of Belgium .. There, you see? Maybe you couldn't find it on the map, but at least I'm trying to change that a little by sharing lots of pictures. I really love to cook and create new things, like this blog for instance. I am a mother,a grandmothe and a wife too! They say I'm a traveler, and a photographer. Well that's just what they say, I love to make pictures, but I am far from professional ... If my English is not perfect, that would be because it's my second language. I do hope you'll forgive me any possible misspellings or strange vocabulary ... Now, as a result of all of the above, I get way too little sleep and my days are always much too short!

Midweek Blues in the Kitchen

 mwb 1575

I was looking for something blue to photograph for Midweek Blues, a new ( to me ) meme hosted by Rebecca at the Dusty Cellar. Blue is not that hard to find in my apartment, I like blue, my whole kitchen has blue accents. Despite that, I did not really find what I was looking for until I noticed that little ray of sunshine on my open kitchen drawer. I love to play with (sun-)light when I take photographs and this little sparkle of sunshine was all it took to chase my photography blues away.

Maybe it’s funny, but I kind of like my kitchen towels. As you can see, some of them have a very distinct “vintage” look about them, but these are the ones I love the best. The one in the middle is one of my favorites and I can even remember where I bought the one on the left. It was on the Saturday market in Antwerp and it was twenty five plus years ago! Can you imagine this? That was a lot of dishes ago!

Oh how wonderful! I love those towels and what a wonderful idea to share. You have certainly taken your photography to an art form. This photo is just gorgeous.

Thanks for joining us!

You have adorable dish towels... almost enough motivation to run into the kitchen and do some dishes (not!). And I really do enjoy how you use a lot of light in your photos :)

the photo is beautiful
all the blue against the natural wood is lovely
there is something so comfy about a kitchen towel, fresh from the dryer and crisp and clean

I have some favorite dishtowels too, I guess it´s just natural.
Love the sun shining on them. Makes it feel so homey.

I don't think I can say it any better than Rebecca. Your ability to take the simple everyday thing and turn it into a beautiful picture is your strength as a photographer. It is not the equipment, it is your brain. You could make great pictures with a pinhole camera!!!

@ Rebecca : It was my pleasure!
@ DescribeHappy : I try to use natural light as much as i can.
@ Wanda : Ohhh, I wish I was your granddaughter. Or maybe, I wish I had granddaughters!
@ Dianne : Yes, maybe it reminds me of my grandmother, or my childhood, I don't know. I just love how they feel.
@ Betty : It was the sun on the open drawer that caught my eye.
@ moneythoughts : ROFL!!
@ Gena @ Thinking Aloud : I like how they feel in my hands, and the older they are, the better they feel!
@ Linda Higgins : I love ironing kitchen towels, and I love how it feels when you take a fresh towel out of the drawer. It's probably a European thing.

I have favorite dishtowels, too. For the longest time, I had some that were my grandmother's and used them until there is hardly anything left of them.

Love the blue and white.

The dishtowels are lovely, but I really love the cupboard that you have them in. Lovely photo as always.

Beautiful blue towels! Over 25 years is a lot of serving, and it still looks so good. Have a blessed week, Jientje.

Jientje, I love this photo. The pool of sunlight brings out the warm tones in the wood and illuminates the texture in the dishtowels. Beautiful composition....beautiful shot.

Best Wishes,
Kay

Once upon a time I had many of those same style towels in red. I gave them all away when I left Vegas. I loved my yellow kitchen with all it's bright red accents.

Makes me want to go out and buy some nice blue tea towels. Of course I really would like that lovely chest of drawers to store them in too!

Wow a 25 year old towel. Wish they made things to last now. I use to tell my Mother to get rid of her older dish towels and she could not part with them. Now I also hold onto mine as they all bring back such fond memories.
