I was looking for something blue to photograph for Midweek Blues, a new ( to me ) meme hosted by Rebecca at the Dusty Cellar. Blue is not that hard to find in my apartment, I like blue, my whole kitchen has blue accents. Despite that, I did not really find what I was looking for until I noticed that little ray of sunshine on my open kitchen drawer. I love to play with (sun-)light when I take photographs and this little sparkle of sunshine was all it took to chase my photography blues away.
Maybe it’s funny, but I kind of like my kitchen towels. As you can see, some of them have a very distinct “vintage” look about them, but these are the ones I love the best. The one in the middle is one of my favorites and I can even remember where I bought the one on the left. It was on the Saturday market in Antwerp and it was twenty five plus years ago! Can you imagine this? That was a lot of dishes ago!

You have adorable dish towels... almost enough motivation to run into the kitchen and do some dishes (not!). And I really do enjoy how you use a lot of light in your photos :)
I love that you LOVE your dishtowels Jientje...I have 2 favorite blue and white ones, given to me by my oldest granddaughter, which I will regift them to her someday!

I don't think I can say it any better than Rebecca. Your ability to take the simple everyday thing and turn it into a beautiful picture is your strength as a photographer. It is not the equipment, it is your brain. You could make great pictures with a pinhole camera!!!

I have favorite dishtowels, too. For the longest time, I had some that were my grandmother's and used them until there is hardly anything left of them.

Jientje, I love this photo. The pool of sunlight brings out the warm tones in the wood and illuminates the texture in the dishtowels. Beautiful composition....beautiful shot.

Once upon a time I had many of those same style towels in red. I gave them all away when I left Vegas. I loved my yellow kitchen with all it's bright red accents.
Wow, it must have seen a lot and a lot of dishes.
Makes me want to go out and buy some nice blue tea towels. Of course I really would like that lovely chest of drawers to store them in too!
Wow a 25 year old towel. Wish they made things to last now. I use to tell my Mother to get rid of her older dish towels and she could not part with them. Now I also hold onto mine as they all bring back such fond memories.
